March was 'peaceful'

A woman on Friday's march by Uenuku iwi through Wanganui disputes it was angry, or hostile to Treaty Negotiations Minister Chris Finlayson, as described in a Chronicle article.

Johanne Patel said the march was the "best I've been on. The sun shone, people were happy, there was no loud yelling or anything. It was just absolutely beautiful."

Mrs Patel said the march was passive.

"Just ring the police station and ask the police".

She said it was an ordinary protest, similar to that held on Saturday against the TPPA, which "was not described in the same terms".

"No one was hostile. We walked up Victoria Ave and we got good wishes from Maori and Pakeha alike."

She said one or two people spoken to by the Chronicle might have expressed anger and she did not know what they said, but the tone of the march was peaceful.
