A major upgrade of the Waverley swimming pool will be completed by late June next year.
Renovations which began last month are being carried out on the changing rooms, carpark and front entrance.
The main entrance to the pool will now be from the western side via the car parkand a replanted garden and replacing of the planters at the entrance will give the pool a further facelift.
A small shed inside the pool has been removed and the surrounding fence has been replaced.
The new fence will improve the appearance and safety of the facility and bright feature panels will add colour to the interior. The painting work will be ongoing.
The changing rooms were old and tired with water damage but a coat of paint has refreshed them and made them brighter; more work is likely in the changing rooms at the end of the current season.
Only the large pool is operating.
The learner's pool, which is not in service, has a new concrete bottom and has been made to a depth which is more suitable for children learning to swim.
The new pool has also been coated with fibreglass, painted with epoxy and has new steps.
The toddler's pool is also not in service, as it is connected to the same filtration link as the learner's pool, but both pools will be in service by Thursday.
When all work is completed, South Taranaki District Council will consult pool users and the community board to assess what work should be done next.
Over summer, the council plans to add shade for pool users, and painting will continue on the new pool fence and outside the changing rooms.
