DOLLAR: Commemorative Coin to mark Lions Tour.

DOLLAR: Commemorative Coin to mark Lions Tour.

The British and Irish Lions Tour has a collectible New Zealand Commemorative Coin Issue to mark the occasion.

The brightly coloured coin is one troy ounce in weight of silver, has a denomination of NZ$1 and the reverse design is by New Zealander Dave Burke.
His design, on a vivid red
background, features two main components - a Lions' badge representing the union of four rival nations and a Maori warrior holding a rugby ball, representing New Zealand and British and Irish Lions rugby players coming together in a hongi. The reverse design is surrounded by a silver collar sporting three koru fronds and the inscription.

The obverse design is a portrait of the Queen by Ian Rank-Broadly, an engraver from the UK. The diameter of the coin is 40mm, the edge is milled and the mintage was 1000 silver proof coins.

This coin, along with many other commemorative coins will be on display at the Wanganui Stamp and Coin Fair at the RSA Lounge, St Hill St, on Sunday, August 13, from 10am to 4pm.
Entry is free.
