Police are waiting on a legal opinion before making any decisions about an allegation of rape brought by a young Wanganui woman against visiting rugby players last year.
An investigation began when a complaint was made about a rape by members of the South Canterbury rugby team - in Wanganui
for a Heartland Championship match - at the Kingsgate Hotel in the early hours of September 8.
Detective Senior Sergeant Neil Forlong said the investigation was not finished yet, and the file had been sent away for legal opinion.
He said he would like to say it would be a couple of weeks until he had more news, but he had said that before.
South Canterbury Rugby Union chairman Brent Isbister said he was receiving "regular updates" from the police. Asked if the players who voluntarily stood down last year over the allegation would play this season, he said he was waiting on police before making a decision on team members. Training was due to start in July.
