A man injured in a hit-and-run in late September appeared in court on Tuesday after police discovered he was drunk when he was involved in the accident.
Randal Robertson was riding his moped on September 29 when he had an accident with a car at the intersection of Liverpool andPitt streets.
Robertson was taken to Wanganui Hospital where blood tests revealed he had a level of 181mg of alcohol per litre of blood in his system. The legal limit is 80mg.
He was also driving outside his restricted licence conditions.
Robertson appeared in Whanganui District Court on Tuesday in a wheelchair and pleaded guilty to driving with excess blood alcohol third or subsequent.
Defence lawyer Stephen Ross said Robertson was in the wheelchair because of the accident, and had suffered "numerous" fractures, including compound fractures.
Judge Dugald Matheson convicted Robertson on the charge and remanded him to January 21 for sentencing. A pre-sentence report was ordered.
