Four fire crews were called to a Taihape house fire early this morning.

A Fire and Emergency spokesman said there were several 111 calls about 1am.

"We responded with a brigade from Taihape and we were advised that not everyone was accounted for in the house, so we alerted the police and ambulance as well," the spokesman said.

"We arrived to find it fully involved with fire, but thankfully, the two people were outside the house."

The spokesman said it "took a wee while" to get the fire under control.

"It escalated to a second alarm response, so we had four crews there fighting it.

"The fire is now under control and we have a fire investigator there right at this moment responding to it."
