Heavy fog closed Wanganui Airport for part of yesterday, causing two flights to be cancelled and delaying another.
Wanganui Airport spokesman Graeme Goldsmith said the first flight to Auckland was cancelled as well as the first flight from Auckland. The flight to Wellington was delayed.
The fog began to liftin Wanganui around 9am, and Mr Goldsmith said the first flight out of Wanganui yesterday was to Auckland at 9.40am.
Late in the afternoon fog rolled back into the city, and late-afternoon flights between Wanganui and Auckland were cancelled.
Most domestic flights in and out of Wellington were also cancelled yesterday morning because of heavy fog.
The foggy morning followed the hottest day of the summer so far. On Wednesday the temperature in Wanganui hit 27C.
However, after a hot, sunny week MetService forecaster John Law said a change in the weather was on its way.
While today and the start of the weekend were expected to warm, a front was forecast to move across the country tomorrow, bringing rain and cooler temperatures.
Wanganui was expected to experience cloudy periods with light winds and a high of 26C today. Showers were forecast for tomorrow, easing on Sunday, with a high of 26C tomorrow and 22C on Sunday.
