Floodwaters isolated the tiny King Country township of Ohura overnight as the swollen Ohura River burst its banks early yesterday afternoon.
Floodwaters covered a section of the Ohura Rd (pictured) between Matiere and Ohura and authorities were warning locals not to travel to Ohura unless absolutely necessary and not to
attempt to drive across flooded roads.
A number of roads in the district have been closed because of flooding or slips and Ruapehu District Council contractors were working to re-open those roads.
A number of other slips and trees have come down but most other roads are passable.
As of last night roads closed included the Ohura Rd, the Ohura North Rd, Waikaka Rd, Mangaparo Rd, Whakamaro Rd, Waitaanga Rd and Crotons Rd.
