Five men appeared in the Wanganui District Court yesterday and were remanded in custody to Palmerston North after gang violence in the city on Tuesday. They will reappear at Wanganui tomorrow. Desmond Robert Black, 51, mechanic of Wanganui, was charged with being the driver of a vehicle
and did not stop when asked to by the police; possession of a knife; possession of a .22 calibre pistol; operating a vehicle recklessly and is jointly charged with possession of a metal crowbar and metal torch. Wayne Paul Tweedale, 26, unemployed, Wanganui, was jointly charged with possession of a metal crowbar and metal torch and possession of a .22 calibre pistol. Stephen John Tidswell, 52, carpenter of Auckland, was charged with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and wounding a man and was jointly charged with Black, Tweedale and Johnston with possession of a .22 calibre pistol and jointly charged with being in a public place at Fitzherbert Ave, with a metal crowbar and metal torch. Daniel Tamati Black, 28, forest worker of Wanganui, was charged with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to a man on Anzac Pde with an aluminium baseball bat.
