Wanganui-based college kapa haka groups will next week vie for supremacy against 43 groups from around the country in the national secondary schools championships.
Groups from Wanganui City College and Cullinane College gained the right to compete at the Maranga Mai National Secondary School Kapa Haka Competitions in Whangarei by placing in the top three in the regional contest. Waitara High school is the other school than won through from the Taranaki competition last year.
Wanganui High School was fourth but missed out on the nationals, as only the top three from each region qualify.
The national competition is held every two years.
This year 43 groups with around 1800 competitors from throughout New Zealand, will converge at the ASB Stadium at Kensington Park, Whangarei, for the five-day Nga Kura Tuarua 2012.
