Drawing from nature

The organisers of a pop-up exhibition were amazed by the response they received to the call for artworks with a nature theme.

"To be honest, we're a bit overwhelmed by all the incredible art we've received," said Cath Watson, one of the organisers.

Said The Fantail opened at The Centre [formerly Whanganui Community Arts Centre Gallery] yesterday and will run until March 15.

Ms Watson said any artworks that referenced the natural world were accepted for the exhibition.

"Some people have submitted work from their own collections, and those aren't for sale. Others have submitted their own artworks, and those are for sale," she said.

The exhibition takes up both galleries at The Centre and contains art works of a wide variety, from photography to corrugated iron sculptures.

Said The Fantail runs at The Centre, 19 Taupo Quay, until March 15.
