Members of the team catering for today's Puanga Whanganui Kai Night - TiaHuia Ranginui, Sandi Ranginui, Kellie Ranginui and Lee Wineera - check out some of the food they will serve.
The night is the finale of this year's Puanga (Maori New Year) festival and spokesman Kemp Dryden said: "It's
an opportunity for local chefs and marae to share their expertise."
The menu starts with seafood and includes muttonbird served on kumara mash with watercress puree drizzled with pickled paua relish. The dessert will be a burnt sugar steamed pudding from an old and secret family recipe. Other foods include venison, rewana bread, paua, kina and puha. Entertainment will be provided by Jerome Kavanagh while Manu Bennett will depict the Puanga story in a sand drawing.
Staged in the Wanganui War Memorial Centre's Pioneer Room, tickets are available from Nicole Dryden on 06 3492319 or 027 4402481, or email her at dryden5@ihug.co.nz
