Whanganui Community choir in rehearsal.

Wanganui Community Choir will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a concert on August 13.

The concert will be enriched by the 25 year legacy of each Musical Director's particular style, passion and flair for sacred, opera, popular, operetta, musical theatre, folk and cultural choral pieces from around the world.

The anniversary concert will feature a number of favourites from throughout the years, including Song of Ruth, I Talk to the Trees and Fields of Gold. Also featured will be Hoea Ra Te Waka Nei arranged by David Hamilton and Wairua O Te Puna Aroha arranged by Julian Raphael, Musical Director of the Wellington Community Choir. This item was performed as part of the combined concert in May this year between the Wellington and Wanganui Community Choirs.

Special guests add an important dimension to the choir's concerts and this anniversary concert is no exception. Featured guests are Shannon Atkin, who joined the choir as an 11 year old and is now an accomplished opera singer based in Wellington. Jeanli Boessenkool, our accompanying pianist, will play the harp, another instrument at which she excels. The Ukulele Orchestra and the Wanganui Community Youth Choir will bring their own particular flavour and vitality to our concert.

Several items will be performed combining both the adult and youth community choirs.
