A man who sped away from police and nearly hit two pedestrians was sentenced in Whanganui District Court on Tuesday.
Anthony Mita Watene was forbidden from driving on March 27, and was spotted by police driving along Somme Parade on May 28, said police prosecutor Sergeant Stephen Butler.
Upon recognisingWatene at the wheel, police tried to get him to pull over, but Watene accelerated away down Dublin St Bridge.
He then led police on a chase through Wanganui East, and "narrowly missed an elderly pedestrian crossing the road", Mr Butler said.
Watene pulled into a driveway, narrowly missing another pedestrian, and knocked on the front door of a property. When the occupants refused to let him in, he left on foot.
