Luke Wing wants to start a new Young Farmers club in South Taranaki.
He's already put the word around by email and flyers. The first meeting is at 7.30pm on Wednesday at the Clarendon Hotel in Waverley.
The low dairy payout might be stressing farmers, and that affected dairy workers,he said.
"They need a place that they can come to and enjoy, and have someone there that they can be friends with."
Young Farmers can be anywhere from 18 to 30 years old. They don't necessarily work on farms, but have rural interests. The activities clubs undertake depend on the members' interests.
There could be factory tours, sport, participation in rural skills contests, charity work or fundraising.
"It's all about what the members want, what interests them. You find out and then build a schedule and plan," Mr Wing said.
He is from England and has been working on David and Sue Pearce's Paetaia dairy farm for nearly 18 months and has been a member of the Wanganui Young Farmers' Club.
