Police seek man

Whanganui Police have not yet identified a man they want to talk to in relation to a window-smashing spree in Guyton St last Wednesday night. Police released a photo of a man late last week and are continuing inquiries to identify him. If you have any details about the incident, please call Whanganui Police on 06 349 0600 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Burglars not located
Police are continuing their inquiries into the burglary of a home in Waipapa Rd, Kakatahi, on June 6. The house was ransacked, leaving the family traumatised, and items including televisions, hunting equipment and a van stolen. A police spokesman said no property had yet been recovered and no arrests had been made.


Average home $264k
The latest Trade Me Property Price Index shows the average asking price for Whanganui homes in May was $264,700. The figure is up 5.8 per cent on May 2017's average of $250,200 and is an increase of 0.5 per cent on April 2018's average asking price. The index measures trends for residential property listings added to Trade Me Property by real estate agents and private sellers.

Minor quakes felt
Two weak earthquakes were felt in Whanganui in the early hours of Sunday. The first one at 3.37am was a magnitude of 2.3 and 18km deep. The second 2.9 magnitude earthquake at a depth of 17km was at 3.39am. Both were centred 10km southeast of Whanganui.
