Artist's ideas blossom into fresh arrangements

Artist Sonny Barlow's latest exhibition looks at how objects are represented, using the medium of a floral arrangement.

Floral Disorder runs at Space Gallery until June 19.

The exhibition starts with a live floral arrangement and progresses through a series of photos of floral arrangements, and ends with a wall hanging made of carpet with a floral design.

"So you start with the real thing and end with an abstract representation," MrBarlow said.

"In between that you have all the photographs, some are of real flowers and some artificial flowers."

Mr Barlow began photographing floral arrangements in 2014, beginning with those at grave sites and in shop windows.

The flowers in the photographs are from a variety of locations, including a friend's house, Hospice Wanganui, shops, and an arrangement by Mr Barlow. The works are all new, and were made in the past two months.
