Spotlight Reporting Limited was created in 2010 by chartered accountant and business mentor Richard Francis.

For 10 years, Richard and his chartered accountant wife Julie have operated Francis Consulting - a boutique accounting and consulting firm. Their Spotlight Reports have been a key decision-making tool for their clients and a positive revenue-earner for the practice for many years.

With more and more clients adopting Xero as their accounting solution, Richard realised it was time to leverage Xero's online data availability to make their Spotlight Reports more powerful. With concepts and insights that have been fine-tuned over 10 years and the streamlined use of interactive technology, Spotlight Reporting is a powerful tool for decision-makers, and a wonderful opportunity for:

Staff members, teams, departments or divisions to clearly report their performance via PDF, email or online to management teams, boards of directors, shareholders or business owners.

Professional advisers to create value for clients and their own practices.

Spotlight Reporting templates securely import Xero data and "automagically" constructs great-looking reports for you. The templates are suitable for start-ups and micro businesses through to more advanced options for high-growth and larger organisations. Customisation options are extensive - you can add or amend data, add non-financial and KPI data, report pages, charts, adviser commentary and more.

Spotlight Reporting benefits for business and other organisation end-users include:

Clear, understandable and usable reports and analysis for more proactive decision-making.

Performance and future-focused reports - not typical boring, management reports.

KPIs can be clearly highlighted, and the results of any necessary remedial action taken can be monitored with ease.

Great mix of data and visual presentation to aid discussion and decision-making.

Enables your Spotlight Reporting partner to clearly understand any problems you may have and provide you with effective advice to improve outcomes.

Spotlight Reporting provides the following benefits for advisers:

Earn new revenue streams as a trusted adviser.

Improve client decision-making and performance.

Engage your staff with "value add" work and obtain follow-up work as a result of increased client interaction.

Consider creating a relationship with a large New Zealand company which is successfully marketing internationally, products or services similar to yours, instead of attempting to start a new business.

In a previous column it was suggested that people or organisations with innovative products or even ideas wishing to maximise their reward, could make contact with an established, innovative organisation which is already successfully marketing products or services in the same sector - with the goal of establishing a mutually beneficial ongoing relationship. (Obviously they would first need to obtain high-quality advice on the protection of intellectual property.)

Business services: In addition to payroll products and services, Datacom provides business process outsourcing for a range of government and corporate clients. The characteristic of this work is the need to bring together people, processes and technology, which often involves provision of logistical support, and/or improving back office efficiency through software development.
