Singing at St Mary's Church in Whanganui may be a far cry from singing in front of thousands of cheering rugby fans although it was another first for Welsh singer Elin Tomos.
The mezzo soprano's voice was heard around the world when she sang both Welsh and New Zealand national anthems at All Blacks v Wales test matches in June this year.
From Pwllheli in northwest Wales on the Lleyn Peninsula, Ms Tomos now lives in Blenheim where she works as a teacher at Springlands School.
"Thank you for inviting me on my first visit to Whanganui," she told her audience at St Mary's Church on Saturday.
Ms Tomos, along with Whanganui poet Airini Beautrais, was a special guest at the Lyric Singers' end-of-year concert Sing for Joy.
