The Red Cross's annual Red Rose Day was exceptionally well-supported in Whanganui this year, local branch secretary Trudy Taylor said.
The branch received 1200 blooms for distribution and there were so many pre-orders that not many roses were left for sale on Red Rose Day yesterday.
"Our pre-orders went exceptionally well and we sold all but about 200 roses before the day," Mrs Taylor said.
"We got some amazing orders. People bent over backwards to support us and encouraged others to order as well."
All proceeds from the local rose sales will be used to support Red Cross work in Whanganui, including distribution of a first aid resource for preschool and new entrant classes, first aid and baby CPR classes as well as emergency support for natural disasters.
