Foragers of hard-to-find gourmet and artisan food items can look forward to more choices at the newly-expanded and relocated specialty shop, The Burrow.

Owner Annette Jones has moved The Burrow into new premises in the Taylor's Landing mall in Taupo Quay near the Whanganui City Bridge. The new-look store opened on Saturday, having moved from a small shop in the same mall

"We have expanded our product range and we have full kitchen facilities in the new shop," Ms Jones said.

"It means we will be able to provide samples which we couldn't in the old shop and I'm hoping someone will come on board to make pastries in the kitchen.

"I've brought in a whole lot of new New Zealand products - it's hard-to-find stuff and I'm always getting new products in. They are niche products that people can't get anywhere else in Whanganui. There's a story behind every tiny company and I feel like I know them personally. Even the items from overseas are made by small companies and artisan producers."

Ms Jones is planning to expand the cold shelf area where customers can buy the store's best-seller, Raglan Coconut Yoghurt, as well as the popular Over the Moon and Zany Zeus cheeses.

The shop also stocks home decor and gift items.

The Burrow is open Monday-Tuesday 9am to 3pm and Wednesday-Saturday 9am to 5pm. It's a family affair with Ms Jones' mother-in-law Faye Bullock joining Ms Jones and daughter Brittany Jones on the staff team.
