The Cocktail Lounge brings 1950s style to Whanganui

Fifties sounds: The Starlets are performing at The Cocktail Lounge in November.

A glamorous night of 1950s-style entertainment is in store at November's fundraising event for Women's Refuge Whanganui.

The Cocktail Lounge will be a classy, relaxed affair with all the vibes of the 1950s jet set. Guests will enjoy cocktails, retro-styled canapes and a light supper as well as top entertainment.

The Starlets, a professional song and dance trio based in Christchurch, will provide the live 1950s sounds.

The trio bill themselves as "more than just your standard 'sing and stand' act".

"We are the personification of vintage glamour and song. We totally embody all that was special and memorable about the 'good ole days'.

"Our passion for performing and true love of entertaining sets us apart. Every show is unique and we delight in capturing audiences with not only our singing, but also our gorgeous costumes, dance moves and our wit."

During the evening, romantic comedy film Some Like It Hot will play in the background. The movie stars Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis.

Last year's The Great Ball fundraiser for Women's Refuge Whanganui featured a popular whiskey bar and it will be on offer again at The Cocktail Lounge. An expert will talk about whiskeys and loungers will have the opportunity to try different whiskeys. Drinks from the whiskey bar are not included in the ticket price.

The Cocktail Lounge will be held on Saturday, November 4, at Heritage House. Tickets are limited to 160 and funds raised will go toward bigger premises for Women's Refuge Whanganui as well as continuing to support their work with women and children. Tickets can be booked via www.thegreatball.nz.
