An innovative approach to implementing a long-term economic programme has seen Accelerate25 and Horizons Regional Council win the collaboration award at the inaugural Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) Awards.
Accelerate25 is the programme behind the Manawatū-Whanganui Economic Action Plan. It is led by representatives of business, iwi, local and central government, and involves a wide range of groups from across the Horizons region. Launched in August 2016, the action plan outlines the region's strategy for increasing job opportunities and quality of life.
The MBIE award, presented in Wellington on August 31, recognised "the strong and tangible commitment to collaboration, evidence-based planning and multi-skilled team work".
Ruapehu District Council, Visit Ruapehu and a consortium of specialist consultants led by Henley Hutchings received a commendation award in the collaboration category. The award was for the creation of the "Ruapehu Regional Visitor Sector Development Plan and Destination Value Proposition".
Accelerate25 lead team facilitator and Horizons Regional Council chief executive Michael McCartney welcomed the national recognition for both projects.
