The Bastia Hill tower is due to get a new set of LED lights.

The lights in the tower cross were recently damaged by heavy rain, Whanganui District Council says, and have not been working for some time.

"We're looking at replacing the lights with LEDs which will cost less to run and last better, and we're also installing a new bracket to hold the lights securely in place," a council spokesperson said.

But there is no indication as to when that might be.

"Everything will need to be craned into place and access is tricky because of the various antennae mounted on the tower around the cross.

"The lights will go on again. We just need to do all the repairs in one go to save time and money."
