Whanganui volunteer operational support firefighter Aaron Whitford broke his fastest time by about two minutes at the Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge in Auckland in Saturday.

"It was awesome. I was stoked with my time this year," he told the Chronicle yesterday.

Mr Whitford, the sole representative from Whanganui, made it to the top of Auckland's Sky Tower in 36 minutes and 43 seconds and had his two-year-old to greet him at the top.

"I think I was just more determined this year."

It was his fourth time up the tower and said he would "most definitely" be doing it again next year. Mr Whitford raised just over $1600 in total this year.
