It was not to be third time lucky for Whanganui horse Who Shot Thebarman, finishing off the pace at yesterday's Melbourne Cup. And neither was it a lucky day for avid Melbourne Cup fans Marie Knuth (left) and Pat Scott Ivan-Middlemiss, both among a full house of patrons at the St John's Club to watch the big race. Mrs Knuth has followed the cup for "a large number of years" and will go to Flemington for the first time next year to see the race in person. But she won't be going there courtesy of any winnings. Like many locals, including the Wanganui Chronicle, she backed Who Shot Thebarman which ran fifth, two places behind 2014 when it ran third.
No third-time fairy tale for barman
