The call for better access, or at least more adequate warning signs, outside a Wanganui retirement village continues.
Helen Maclean, who recently moved into a villa at Broadview Retirement Village on Mosston Rd, raised the issue of the dangers of the entrance, saying it was perilous for drivers heading in or out of the village.
The entrance is directly onto Mosston Rd which carries a 70km/h speed restriction. But Mrs Maclean said traffic tended to travel much faster than that. Compounding the problem was the fact the entrance was near a corner.
Her story in Monday's Chronicle prompted a response from Wanganui District councillor Ray Stevens who said there had been significant work done on that corner some years ago, when issues of safety had been raised. Some trees were removed, the bank was shaped back and warning signs put up on the road each side before the entrance. A convex mirror had also been placed across the road from the entrance, so drivers could see traffic coming from both ends of Mosston Rd.
Mrs Maclean said while she found the mirror "helpful" other people did not.
