Aramoho Playcentre parents are rapt with the success of their Little Day Out on Saturday, co-ordinator Kim Balsom says.
They opened up the Burmah St, Wanganui, playcentre from 10am to 1pm. There was a bouncy castle, a cake stall, a white elephant stall, raffles, a dig for pirate treasure and a chance for children to decorate their own cupcake. Ponies and vintage cars took people for rides around the grounds of adjoining Churton School. For lunch there was a sausage sizzle and venison hamburgers.
About 100 people came along, Mrs Balsom said - children, parents and grandparents. They had a great time and gave good feedback.
One little girl was overheard to say, "Mum, this is the best day ever."
Playcentre parents put a lot of effort into organising the day, and were supported by other playcentres. It was the first time they had tried such an event. Mrs Balsom said they worked well together and raised $1100.
