If your motor vehicle is due for relicensing then think carefully about how long you register it for.
That's because new ACC levies come into effect on July 1 and anyone who registers a motor vehicle beyond that date will be over-paying.
The Automobile Association and Consumer NZ have advised that any owner needing to relicense should do it for a shorter period so the registration expires shortly after July 1.
From that date, annual motor vehicle licence levies will reduce by an average of 45 per cent for most vehicles. The exceptions are motorcycles, mopeds, trailers and caravans.
The reduction will vary. For cars aged under 40 years, the reduction will depend on the car's safety rating, calculated by ACC. The annual savings will range from $42-$132 for petrol-powered vehicles, and $82-$172 for diesels. ACC tax on petrol will also fall 3 cents per litre on July 1 next year.
