A young woman who ran over her friend in a car had alcohol in her system but was not over the legal limit.
Nykayla Raukura Nikorima pleaded guilty to aggravated careless driving causing injury (under influence of alcohol) and appeared in Whanganui District Court on Tuesday.
Defence lawyer Harete Hipango said the friend sustained "serious injuries" during the accident. It was earlier thought the friend would be confined to a wheelchair for the "foreseeable future", but she was in court on Tuesday and Ms Hipango said she was mobile and could walk.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Stephen Butler said Nikorima had been drinking and had more than 250mcg of alcohol per litre of breath, but was underneath 400mcg, which is the legal limit.
However the alcohol was counted as a "contributing factor" to the accident, which happened in Waverley.
