The SPCA is pleased with the outcome of its prosecution of two people in Whanganui District Court last week for neglecting a pet dog.
Wayne Simmonds and Kiri Edwards pleaded guilty to failing to provide a dog with sufficient nourishment and failing to get veterinary assistance.
Wanganui SPCA took out the prosecution after retired greyhound Max was put in its care after Wanganui District Council animal control officers uplifted the dog. The SPCA cared for Max for several weeks until his health improved and he was re-homed.
Wanganui SPCA has taken two such prosecutions in the past two years, a spokesperson said.
Simmonds was disqualified from owning a dog for five years, sentenced to 100 hours' community work, ordered to pay vet costs of $575, $372 for boarding costs and $500 towards the prosecution.
