The Orsborn family made their final farewells to their late son and sibling Garrod at a private funeral service yesterday.
Garrod Orsborn went missing on May 30, believed to have jumped off the Aramoho Rail Bridge.
A body pulled from the Whanganui River last week was formally identified as Garrod earlier this week and was returned to his family.
After more than two weeks of waiting, the Orsborn family were relieved that Garrod had finally come home.
Garrod's father, Bryce Orsborn, said it was a strange coincidence that Garrod "turned up" just four days after a memorial service was held. "It was almost like he responded to that call," he said.
Mr Orsborn said that when police told them the body had been identified as Garrod's they felt relieved.
"We were preparing ourselves for him not to be recovered. We [Bryce and his wife Kathy] were at work when we heard. Kathy said she felt like a weight had dropped away."
Mr Orsborn said the coroner had told him the river had taken good care of Garrod, leaving him undamaged and fully clothed except for his shoes and one sock.
His keys and credit cards were still in his pocket and his watch was still working and showing the correct time.
"That's our Garrod," Mr Orsborn said.
