THE toe's done it!
It may faze others, but a broken toe didn't do Wanganui Mayor Michael Laws any harm in last night's episode of Dancing With The Stars.
He and dance partner Lauren de Boeck lived to dance another day when the programme reached its business end with the first of the celebrities being voted off.
First to go was April Ieremia. She and Mayor Laws scored the lowest in the combined vote of the judging panel and the public voters. They were the last to be called to centre-stage to hear the final verdict.
A week's a long time in politics and it's a long time in dancing, it would seem. After the first-night performance ? which earned a score of 1 from English judge Craig Revel-Horwood ? Mr Laws improved to earn a 3 from the acerbic Englishman.
The Laws-de Boeck combination did their quickstep and, while it was a better effort, it still earned the lowest mark from the judges on the evening ? 19.
Alison Leonard said she liked what she saw in the mayoral effort last night: "I enjoyed watching you tonight."
Mr Revel-Horwood said while Mr Laws' quickstep showed a "plethora of things wrong" it was "a vast improvement".
