Hymech NZ aims to provide a bigger one-stop shop for customers when it moves to new premises in central Whanganui.

Hymech has been based in Heads Rd for 40 years but Phil Ryland, who has been the sole owner for the past three years, said a decision to revamp and rebrand the business prompted the move to the corner of Purnell and Guyton streets.

"It's a higher-profile site and we'll have more retail products available," Ryland said.

"It will be a one-stop shop. The workshop will be doing more heavy machinery work - for example, for forestry - and precision engineering lathe work while the front of the building will be the retail side of it.

"The retail side of the business has grown. We were upgrading the shop at Heads Rd but we decided we needed a bigger profile and we'll also have more parking for customers."

The business does sales and service of hydraulic components, pneumatic and mechanical components, hydraulic hoses and fittings, electric motors and gearboxes.

Hydraulink is a core supplier and, as a franchisee, Hymech covers the Whanganui, Ōhakune, Taihape, Bulls and Waverley areas.

"The hose and fittings side of the business is 24/7," Ryland said.

"Our breakdown service is on call all day, every day. The Hydraulink branding also encompasses Motul industrial and engine oils."

Three staff are out on the road in service utes, three in Hydraulink hose trucks, three work full-time in the workshop on machinery, welding and general engineering, and there are a couple of office staff, a workshop manager and parts manager as well as Ryland.

Work is underway to upgrade the premises, formerly occupied by Ignition Motors, and Ryland plans to be operating from the new site in early March.
