Waikato boxer Floyd Masson, 33, will return to the ring next month, fighting Austine Nnamdi, 35, of Nigeria, in Brisbane.

The March 1 bout will be his first fight since a unanimous decision loss in Poland against Mateusz Masternak and an ear injury.

Since losing his IBO World title in 2023, Masson, who now lives in Australia, has been on a mission to climb the ranks again.

He came out victorious over Kiwi Joshua Francis in August last year, however, lost in a closer fight against world title contender Masternak in November.

Despite his recent loss, Masson is still ranked 24th in the World Boxing Council, putting him on the edge for a potential world rankings position by the end of the year.

This means, even though Masson had been less active between 2021 and 2024 compared to the beginning of his career, it is expected he will have a busy 2025.

His first opponent of the year, Nnamdi, has a decent record of 11 wins and four losses — with 10 of his wins coming by way of knockout.

However, only four of his wins were against people with positive records, one of them being a rematch.

Nnamdi’s biggest win was against Nigerian cruiserweight champion Chidi Enoma (33 - 6 - 2) who held the title for 10 years, however, at age 50, Enoma is past his prime and was coming off a three-loss streak.

Nnamdi has yet to win a professional boxing title.

The Masson v Nnamdi fight will be held as part of the No Limit Boxing show, on the Liam Wilson v Youssef Dib undercard.

No Limit Boxing, run by Matt and George Rose, also promotes other top boxers from New Zealand and Australia, including former IBO World champion Mea Motu and world title contenders Andrei Mikhailovich and Jerome Pampellone.
