The woman had been targeting elderly victims around the Waikato by purporting to work for the Waikato District Health Board.

A woman who allegedly posed as a health worker to steal medication from elderly people has been arrested.

The accused had been pretending to work for the Waikato District Health Board in order to gain access to elderly people in their homes before going on to steal their medication.

Waikato police today said most of the victims had been living in retirement villages.

"It is known that she has used a black Toyota Corolla to travel throughout the Waikato and is described as a well-dressed and well-spoken Caucasian woman."

They now asked people to check on their elderly loved ones to ensure they hadn't also been victims.

"Can you please check with those around you who could potentially be targets.

"If you have any more information or believe you have fallen victim to this woman please contact Constable Mark Soffe of the Tactical Crime Unit on 021 191 2384."

A woman will appear in the Hamilton District Court on Friday charged with burglary.
