State Highway 29 at Lower Kaimai has reopened after a two-vehicle crash involving a truck left seriously injured at least one person.

A police spokesman said the crash was reported about noon. It was near the summit on the Matamata side of the Kaimai Range between Hanga and Rapurapu Rds.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency said at 2.20pm it had opened.

A Hato Hone St John spokesman said one person was airlifted to Waikato Hospital in a serious condition.

An ambulance, a helicopter, a rapid response vehicle and an operations manager had been sent to the scene.

Earlier, a motorist at the scene told the Bay of Plenty Times traffic was at a standstill.
