Five years ago, I returned to Te Awamutu from Hamilton to take up a role as a multimedia journalist for the Te Awamutu Courier.

Having grown up in the area, I remember reading the Te Awamutu Courier - scouring the pages for my junior rugby draws, looking for familiar faces and collecting clippings of the Regent Theatre movie timetables.

The Courier has been an asset to this community for longer than any of us have been alive. Young and old have read its pages for more than a century.

Thank you to the community for your ongoing support and to editor Dean Taylor who I have worked with since my arrival here.

Long-serving former sports reporter Colin Thorsen with his wealth of knowledge has also been an important part on this journey. Thank you for your passion.

Thank you to all my other colleagues along the way.

I hope it’s not goodbye, but just bye for now to our historic local paper that’s world-famous in Te Awamutu and surrounding areas.

My next steps are unknown, but we will see soon enough what 2025 has in store.
