Motorbike and vehicle accident leaves one person dead near Matamata

Te Poi Rd near Matamata has been closed due to a serious accident.

One person has died after a crash involving a motorbike and a vehicle on Te Poi Rd, near the intersection with State Highway 29.

The accident happened at about 1.20pm and the road was still closed at 5pm on Friday.

A Police spokesperson confirmed the motorcycle rider died at the scene.

“Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the motorbike rider passed away at the scene a short time later.”

The Serious Crash Unit was in attendance on Friday afternoon and Te Poi Rd was closed while emergency services worked to clear the road.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
