Hamilton's Lake Domain junior play area, near The Verandah eatery, will undergo a transformation with the installation of a new modular unit.
The city council's parks and open spaces manager Sally Sheedy says the upgrade is part of a renewals programme.
"This is a particularly popular playground, with thousands of children enjoying it every year. But with that popularity comes wear and tear, so after 13 years of use, the current play equipment will be replaced," Miss Sheedy says.
"The new equipment for the junior play area includes some great features children will love - several climbing nets, various slides, as well as balconies, climbing walls and aspects for smaller children such as shop counters, a telescope, a cooker and a ship wheel."
Miss Sheedy says the replacement work means the junior play area will be out of action for several weeks, with new surfacing and fences included in the refit. Historic concrete cars and boats will remain at the site, and parts of the old playground equipment will be kept in storage for future use. Other play equipment will remain open.
