A woman walking down a north Waikato street last night was surprised to be greeted by a naked man as she went past.

The woman was walking on Escotts Rd, Tuakau, when she spotted the naked man standing on the street shortly after 7pm on Monday.

"The woman says she'd seen him and advised he said 'hi' as she went past, but no threats," a police spokeswoman said.

Police were in the area looking for the man, but it did not appear they had found him.

The spokeswoman was unsure of the degree of nakedness the man was in.
