One person dead after State Highway 1 crash north of Tūrangi

One person has died and another was injured after a crash north of Tūrangi that has blocked State Highway 1.

Meanwhile, a crash in Palmerston North between a car and a motorcycle has seriously injured more motorists.

The Tūrangi crash was reported at 6.45pm. One person was found critically injured when emergency services arrived but died at the scene. Another person suffered moderate injuries.

The road is expected to be closed for some time while the crash is investigated, and motorists are being advised to avoid the area.

Further south, emergency services responded to another serious crash in Palmerston North, between a car and a motorcycle.

Police were called to the crash on Tennent Drive, Turitea at 8.25pm.

Diversions are in place after the crash closed the road. Motorists are advised to take alternative routes.
