One dead after Matamata driveway tragedy, police examine scene

One person has died after being hit by a vehicle in a driveway in Matamata.

Emergency services were called to a property on Manuka St at around 1.50pm on Saturday.

The road is closed while the police serious crash unit examines the scene.

“Motorists and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area if possible,” police said.

“Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.”

Hato Hone St John said it was notified at 1.48pm and responded with one ambulance, a rapid response unit, a manager, and a helicopter to the scene.

“Our crews were not required for transportation. Please refer to police for further information,” a spokesperson said.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and expect delays.
