NZ Herald Afternoon Headlines | Sunday May 10, 2026 US and Iran peace talks are yet to make headway. The passengers on the hantavirus cruise ship are set to quarantine for weeks.

Police have released the names of two overseas men killed in a crash on State Highway 1 near Kinleith last month.

James Daniel Spence, 28, from England, and Raphael Jean-Gabriel Roellinger, 22, from France, died following the crash south of Tokoroa on April 29.

“Police extend our deepest condolences to their families during this difficult time,” they said.

Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash remain ongoing.

Police previously appealed for anyone with information to come forward, particularly anyone who may have dashcam footage from around the time of the crash.

Those travelling on the Tar Hill highway between 8.30pm and 9.30pm were being urged to check their dashcam footage and contact police.

Police were also asking the drivers of two truck-and-trailer units to make themselves known, both of whom were driving northbound in the passing lane at the time of the accident.

Police believe one of the trucks was nearly hit by a car involved in the collision when it overtook a truck and returned to the southbound lane.
