One of the men accused of an armed robbery of a Hamilton dairy in which a dairy owner suffered a minor injury has had his bail denied.

William Albert Tahere, 22, appeared before Community Magistrate Stevan Cole in the Hamilton District Court this morning.

Tahere faces charges of aggravated robbery, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle and driving while disqualified after the alleged incident at the Fairfield Bridge Dairy about 6.50am yesterday.

Through his lawyer Anne Marie Beveridge, Tahere applied for bail which was opposed by police.

Cole declined the request and further remanded Tahere in custody until April 27 when Beveridge would apply for the most serious, aggravated robbery charge, to be dismissed.

Police allege one of the accused became involved in a tussle with the dairy owner during the incident after he was threatened with a long knife.

The pair fled but are alleged to have been caught a short time later.
