A 19-year-old driver has been caught by police after overtaking multiple vehicles on double yellow lines on State Highway 27 in the Waikato.

A police spokesman said the male driver was caught at 2pm today driving on a learner licence at 112km/hour with a passenger after overtaking on the yellow lines near Tatuanui.

"He was given the appropriate infringement notices," he said.

"Drivers just need to make sure they are driving to the conditions, especially in this wet weather. Unfortunately that does make it harder to drive, especially when it is wet."
