Hamiltonian Robyn Rawson has been named Plastics Apprentice of the Year at the New Zealand Plastics Industry Annual Conference in Rotorua.

Rawson, 22, said the award was motivating her to continue progressing her field.

"Winning the award encourages me to keep learning and progressing in this industry."

Rawson, who works at Profile Polymers in Hamilton, says the post-apprenticeship award was unexpected, but she is grateful for it.

"At first I didn't really know what it meant.

"It's been great to be recognised. They've been really supportive."

Account manager of CompeteNZ Phil Jones, and the person who nominated Rawson after observing her work ethic and skill in plastics processing, said she was on her way to being one of the best in New Zealand.

"Robyn has demonstrated she has the passion to be the best at what she does.
