Hamilton's Anzac Day Dawn Service will take place at 6am.

Hamilton's Anzac Day Dawn Service will take place at 6am.

Anzac Day is upon us and there are several services and events to honour and remember all New Zealanders who served and died in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

This year marks the 111th year of Anzac Day commemoration.

In Hamilton, like every year, a display of thousands of poppies will be installed at the corner of Memorial Drive and Anzac Parade.

The Fields of Remembrance Trust will place 350 white crosses in Memorial Park to acknowledge the Hamiltonians lost in conflict.

The poppies will be installed today and removed after the Civic Service on Anzac Day. The crosses will remain until Sunday, April 26.

Hamilton Mayor Tim Macindoe said it had been heartening to see large numbers attending the dawn and civic services in recent years, including young people.

“These ceremonies give us a chance to reflect together and ensure the service of our military personnel is remembered and honoured.”

Meanwhile, a Bike Ride of Respect, starting from the Ngaaruawaahia RSA to Wellington, has been organised by the Tribal Nations Motorcycle Club Aotearoa.
