Police are trying to track down a person who beat a woman with a hammer in Hamilton.
The woman escaped the assault to call for help at an address on Marire Ave in Frankton.
A Hato Hone St John spokesperson told the Waikato Herald the ambulance service was notified of the incident about 6.03pm.
“One ambulance and rapid response vehicle attended,” the spokesperson said.
“We took a patient to hospital in a serious condition.”
In a statement, Detective Sergeant Nicholas Stark said police were called about 6pm last night.
They have been conducting a scene examination this morning and following lines of inquiry.
The offender and the woman were known to each other, Stark said.
Stark asked for information from anyone driving along Norton Rd between 5pm and 7pm yesterday who may have seen a distressed woman.
Anyone with information and/or dash camera footage could contact 105 and reference file number 240429/8272.
The news comes after Hamilton police launched an investigation earlier this month when a woman was located injured near the intersection of Breckons Ave and Avalon Dr following an assault.
At the time, a police spokesperson said those involved in the case were known to each other and there was no ongoing risk to the public.
The woman was transported to hospital in a serious condition.
