Crews were called to a fire at a block of shops on Masters Ave in Hillcrest, Hamilton overnight.

Multiple crews have battled a fire at a commercial building in Hamilton overnight.

Northern Fire Communications shift manager Michael Anderson said they were called to a blaze at a block of shops on Masters Ave in Hillcrest just before 3am.

Twelve fire trucks from six different stations were in attendance at the fire’s peak.

Anderson said he did not know how badly the 60x10m building had been damaged, but there had been no reports of injuries.

Four fire crews remain on site and are in the overhaul stage, Fire and Emergency NZ said in a social media update.
